Description
Carboxypeptidase B Rat, E. coli Recombinant Protein, also known as CPB, is a bioactive protease enzyme that preferentially cleaves off basic amino acids arginine and lysine from the C-terminus of a peptide. The enzyme is purified by standard chromatography techniques and supplied as a lyophilized powder. The CPB enzyme is free of foreign enzymes such as carboxypeptidase A and chymotrypsin, and also free of protease inhibitors such as PMSF and EDTA. The enzyme is not inhibited by di-isopropylfluorophosphate (DFP), but it is inhibited by metal chelating agents, e.g., EDTA, 1,10-phenanthroline.
Application
Carboxypeptidase B hydrolyzes the basic amino acids lysine (L), arginine (R), and ornithine from the C-terminal position of polypeptides.
Carboxypeptidase B is commonly used in:
- Peptide mapping and protein sequencing
 - Determination of protein C-terminal amino acid
 - Sequence analysis by successive cleavage of C-terminal basic amino acids.
 - Insulin production by converting pro-insulin to insulin.
 - Production and quality control of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs).
