Description
Recombinant Bovine Vitronectin Protein produced by Multus Biotechnology Ltd. is commonly used to coat cell culture surfaces to promote attachment and proliferation of adhesive cells.
Summary
A critical challenge in the cell culture industry is the cost of growth media. Current solutions are not designed for the food industry. FBS is often used in cell culture but is unethically sourced and has large price and performance fluctuations. Serum-free formulations are typically expensive, do not perform well across the range of cell lines used in cultivated meat, and are not designed for scale. Multus creates the key ingredients for companies to accelerate R&D and scale production to bring cultivated meat to market affordably and profitably.
One of the key ingredients commonly used in both the biopharmaceutical and cellular agriculture industries is Vitronectin. Multus produces recombinant bovine Vitronectin which can be used as an extracellular matrix (ECM) to promote cell proliferation and supports normal colony morphology for different cell types. The Vitronectin produced is a wild-type bovine version with a total molecular mass of 48.7 kDa.

Application Notes
The optimal working concentration of our Vitronectin is cell line dependent and may require optimization. We recommend using a final coating concentration of 5–10 μg/ml to coat the plate surfaces, depending on the cell type used. We routinely use Vitronectin at 10 μg/ml for cell culture.

Background
Vitronectin is a cell adhesion and spreading factor found in serum and tissues. Vitronectin interacts with glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans. It is recognized by certain members of the integrin family and serves as a cell-to-substrate adhesion molecule. Inhibitor of the membrane-damaging effect of the terminal cytolytic complement pathway (UniProt KB# P04004).
