Introduction
Pan-Biotech ITS Solution I (100x) is a cell culture media supplement that contains 0.5 mg/ml insulin human (recombinant), 0.5 mg/ml apo-Transferrin human, and 0.5 μg/ml sodium selenite in a balanced salt solution.
Insulin-Transferrin-Selenium (ITS) solutions are commonly added to basal media such as F-12 Nutrient Mixture, DMEM/F12, DMEM, and Eagle’s MEM to reduce the amount of fetal bovine serum (FBS) needed to culture cells or to promote optimal performance of serum-free media. ITS Solutions can support routine maintenance and low density attachment of many adherent cell types in cultures with 2-4% FBS content.
Insulin promotes glucose and amino acid uptake, lipogenesis, monovalent cation and phosphate transport, protein and nucleic acid synthesis. Transferrin serves as a carrier for iron and may help to reduce toxic levels of oxygen radicals and peroxide. Selenite is a co-factor for glutathione peroxidase and is used as an antioxidant in media.

Instructions for Use
10 ml of ITS solution (100x) is sufficient for up to one liter of medium. It is necessary to add 2-4% FBS to achieve optimal growth, although some adherent cultures may require less serum supplementation following initial adaptation.
