Introduction
PAN-Biotech Paneticin G418 (G418 Sulfate), 50 mg/ml is a water soluble aminoglycoside antibiotic. It has a broad range of antibacterial activity. It also shows activity against protozoa, cecal amoebiasis, and helminths. G418 is an analog of neomycin sulfate, and has a similar mechanism as neomycin. G418 blocks polypeptide synthesis by inhibiting the elongation step in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. In a high concentration, G418 can kill eukaryotic cells.
Paneticin G418 is a suitable alternative to Geneticin™ Selective Antibiotic.
Application
G418 disulfate salt is an aminoglycoside antibiotic similar in structure to gentamicin that is used for selection and maintenance of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells transfected with an iNOS promoter construct and neomycin resistance gene. Optimal concentrations for selection and maintenance vary by cell lines (between 100 - 500 μg/ml).
NOTE: Paneticin G418 selective antibiotic is used in the concentration range of 100 - 200 μg/ml for bacteria, or 200 - 500 μg/ml for most mammalian cells; however, the optimal concentration must be determined for each cell line.
