Description
LAP (Lithium phenyl-2,4,6-trimethylbenzoylphosphinate) is a widely used photoinitiator in photocrosslinking reactions, enabling the crosslinking of water-soluble macromolecules with photoreactive groups into hydrogels or bioinks under light exposure.
LAP efficiently crosslinks upon exposure to visible light at approximately 405 nm. LAP is generally cytocompatible, with recommended concentrations for cell culture experiments ranging from 0.05% to 1%, depending on the photocrosslinkable material, to maintain compatibility. Usually, polymerization kinetics using LAP enable cell encapsulation with lower initiator concentrations and longer wavelength light, improving cell viability and reducing initiator toxicity. Nevertheless, higher LAP concentrations may pose cytotoxic and mutagenic risks to cells. LAP concentration may also influence the mechanical properties of the crosslinked material.
LAP is the recommended photoinitiator for Metatissue® hPLMA - Human Methacryloyl Platelet Lysates Photopolymerizable Hydrogel.
