Description
Bovine Collagen-V is a natural protein purified from bovine placenta. Collagen-V is purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
Collagen, a major component of the extracellular matrix, is a fibrous protein that provides tensile strength to tissues giving them structural integrity. Collagens contribute to mechanical properties, organization, and shape of tissues. Collagen is the most widely used extracellular matrix (ECM) protein for cell culture, facilitating cell attachment, growth, differentiation, migration, and tissue morphogenesis.
Type V collagen is a member of group I collagen (fibrillar forming collagen). It is a minor connective tissue component of nearly ubiquitous distribution. Type V collagen contributes to the bone matrix, corneal stroma, and the interstitial matrix of muscles, liver, lungs, and placenta. Type V collagen binds to DNA, heparan sulfate, thrombospondin, heparin, and insulin.
Source
Bovine placenta.
Formulation
Filtered white lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder. Collagen-V was lyophilized without additives.
Purity
Purity > 98.0%.
Reconstitution
We recommend to reconstitute the lyophilized Collagen-V in 20 mM acetic acid not less than 1 mg/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.
Shipping
At ambient temperature. Upon receipt, store the product at the temperature recommended below.
Storage/Expiration
Lyophilized Collagen-V, although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -18C. Upon reconstitution, Collagen-V should be stored at 4C between 2-7 days and for future use below -18C. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles.
Usage
This product is intended for Laboratory Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. This product may not be used as a pharmaceutical or veterinary drug, agricultural product, or food additive.
Other Names
Type V Collagen, Type 5 Collagen, Collagen-5, COL5A1, Collagen alpha-1(V) chain
