Introduction
Mycoplasma contamination of cell cultures (primary cultures as well as cell lines) continues to present a considerable and often disregarded problem for basic academic research and bio-pharmaceutical manufacturing using cultured cells as major tools. Comprehensive surveys have demonstrated the presence of different strains of mycoplasma in up to one third of cell cultures tested. Infected cells may show morphological as well as functional changes, such as decreased or shut
down proliferation or diminished production of cellular metabolites. In addition, an infection may occur unnoticed, resulting in undesired deviations of cellular function. Therefore, a frequent examination for possible contamination with mycoplasma and an effective treatment are essential for a successful work with cell cultures.
Mycorase has been developed to remove a broad range of different strains of mycoplasma in most cell types. Mycorase is easy to use and does not affect eukaryotic cell proliferation. It is a highly effective antibiotic solution for safe eradication of mycoplasma contamination.

Instructions for Use
Mycorase treatment of cell cultures is performed in three or more cycles. Cultures should be checked about once a week for presence of mycoplasma with a reliable method. Mycoplasma will be erased after two to three weeks. Mycorase 50x stock solution is diluted in culture medium (e.g. 1 ml in 50 ml) and incubated with affected culture. Cells should be rinsed with DPBS at start of treatment and between changes of medium; if mycoplasma are still present after three weeks, increase concentration of Mycorase to 1:25 (2 ml in 50 ml). With sensitive cells, an increased cell density and a higher concentration of FBS (additional 5-10%) may give better results with erasure.
