Description
3-D Life AgaFloat is a cell-compatible agarose preparation which can be added to 3-D Life Hydrogels to avoid the sedimentation of cells while the gel is forming. When AgaFloat is added to the pregel solution, the pregel solution remains liquid. AgaFloat does not interfere with the biomimetic properties of 3-D Life Hydrogels. For instructions, please consult General Protocols GP-2 "Preparation of 3-D Life Slow Gelling Hydrogels" or GP-4 "Preparation of 3-D Life Hyaluronic Acid Hydrogels" and the 3-D Life Hydrogels User Guide. 3-D Life AgaFloat is not required for the preparation of 3-D Life Fast Gelling Hydrogels or ToGro Hydrogels.
Application
AgaFloat is added to Slow Gelling (SG) and Hyaluronic Acid (HA) hydrogels specifically at low crosslinking strengths, i.e. soft hydrogels.
Some 3D cell culture applications require time during hydrogel setup, for example:
- filling microchannels
- filling microwell plates
- or any other setup which takes time
The advantages of slow gelling hydrogels (e.g. 3-D Life SG Hydrogels or HA Hydrogels) can be maximized with AgaFloat by keeping cells evenly distributed throughout the gel.

How to Use
Simply mix AgaFloat into the pregel solution, briefly cool down and continue with hydrogel set-up as usual.
