Using serum-containing media limits the impact of your research on human mesenchymal stromal cells (hMSC) in non-clinical and clinical applications, and impedes the reproducibility of your results. You are interested in reducing or completely eliminating serum content in your media, however cell performance has suffered. You have tried a few coatings or media supplements, but so far there is no clear solution to this issue. Ideally, you want the reliability of more chemically defined media, while maintaining the performance of your hMSC cultures.
Serum-free and chemically defined mesenchymal stromal cell culture with myMATRIX MSC
myMATRIX MSC – denovoMATRIX provides a chemically defined cell adhesion-promoting microenvironment offered as pre-coated cultureware, specially formulated for expansion of human mesenchymal stromal cells (hMSC) in serum-free and xeno-free media.
- Batch-to-batch consistency
- Serum-free and xeno-free culture
- Characteristic phenotype and identity
- Rapid cell proliferation at high viability
- Robust cell differentiation
Recapitulate key functions of the cellular microenvironment
myMATRIX MSC combines biologically relevant synthetic peptides with sulfated glycosaminoglycan (GAG) analogs to recreate the functional aspects of the cellular microenvironment. A peptide sequence containing ‘RGD’ facilitates cell attachment by stimulating integrin receptors while the GAG analogs support the stabilization of ligand-receptor interactions and storage of growth factors. The coating is manufactured without the use of any animal or human components to enable reliable and reproducible ex vivo cell expansion.
Efficient in vitro expansion of high quality hMSCs requires optimal growth conditions. myMATRIX MSC can be used in combination with many dissociation reagents, media and supplements and supports cell adhesion, rapid proliferation and high viability in serum-containing as well as serum-free culture conditions. The chemically defined nature of the coating qualifies it for the use in cell manufacturing for clinical research, tissue engineering, cell-based therapies, drug screening and disease modeling.
Maintain high cell quality
hMSCs are a heterogeneous population of tissue-specific stem/progenitor cells. According to the International Society for Cellular Therapy MSCs are defined by three minimal criteria: 1) plastic-adherent growth in serum-containing medium, 2) differentiation capacity into adipocytes, osteocytes and chondrocytes and 3) the absence and presence of specific cell surface antigens. hMSCs cultured on myMATRIX MSC maintain their differentiation and immunomodulatory capacity, characteristic cell morphology and expression of hMSC-specific surface antigens in line with aforementioned standards.
